Among men, he was 72nd, and he placed 15th in the male 1825 division. In a large Friday evening Canary Wharf field, those are sharp numbers. His pacing was steady across all 5km: 3:39, 3:47, 3:49, 3:51, then a fastest closing kilometre of 3:44. He improved from 188th at 1km to 176th at the finish, gaining places late and moving from 17th to 15th in his age group. That closing kilometre stands out. As a coaching note, the opening 1km was his quickest, so a slightly more even first 4km could help set up an equally strong finish next time.
