That put him in roughly the top 3.4% of the field. In a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, those are strong numbers. His pacing was steady across all 5 kilometres: 3:44, 3:47, 3:54, 3:52, and 3:44. After the opening kilometre, the middle section eased slightly, then he closed with his quickest kilometre to gain four overall places late. That finishing strength stands out. As a coachs note, holding the 3:443:47/km rhythm a little deeper into kilometres 3 and 4 would likely bring the next step forward.
