Strong Finish to Close Out a Sub-5:40/km 5K Sarah ran 5.00 km in 28:12, averaging 5:38/km. She placed 38th in the Female 4145 division and finished ahead of a large share of the 5,624-runner field. Her opening kilometre was 5:30, and she closed even faster with a 5:29 final kilometre, her quickest of the race. The middle section drifted from 5:38 to 5:51/km across kilometres 24, then she responded well late. That finishing lift is a useful marker: the speed was there at the end. As a coachs note, holding kilometre 1 a little closer to her average pace may help smooth out the mid-race slowdown and set up an even stronger overall time at fast evening 5Ks like this Canary Wharf race.
