Steady 5K with a strong opening 2K Matthew ran 5.00 km in 26:56, averaging 5:23/km. He placed 1,740th of 5,624 overall, 1,085th among men, and 298th in the mens 2630 division. His best stretch came early: 1K splits of 5:17 and 5:15 brought him through 2K in 10:31, moving him up to 1,611th overall. From 2K onward, his pace stayed quite consistent at 5:26, 5:32, and 5:28/km. That gave him a 17-second spread between fastest and slowest kilometres, a solid level of control across the full distance. As a coachs note, the numbers suggest a good platform for a small late-race gain; matching the first 2K a little deeper into kilometres 34 could trim time next outing. Run The Wharfs closed-road evening format suited a brisk, even effort.
