Fast, controlled 5K with a strong closing kilometre He ran 5.00km in 15:25, averaging 3:05/km. That put him 25th overall out of 5,624 and 5th in the Male Elite 1825 division, a strong result in a deep field. His fastest kilometres were km 1 and km 5 at 3:03, with km 2 close behind at 3:02. The race was very even: 3:03, 3:02, 3:10, 3:10, 3:03. He moved up to 22nd overall by 2km and held near that position through 4km before a slight fade in placing late on. The key positive is how well he reopened the pace in the final kilometre after the middle section drifted by about 8 seconds per km. If he can hold the 3:023:03/km rhythm a little deeper into km 34, that would likely bring his next 5K down further.
