Fast Finish Secured a Clear Win Thomas won the 5K in 14:27, averaging 2:53/km over 5.00 km. He finished 1st overall out of 5,624 participants and also took 1st in the Male Elite category. In an event known for its fast closed-road evening setting through Canary Wharf, this was a sharp result, especially with the win decided by his closing speed. His pacing was controlled early, then decisive late: 2:56, 2:53, 3:01, 3:00, and 2:39 per km. He moved from 4th at 1 km to 3rd through 4 km, then surged to 1st by 5 km. That final kilometre was 22 seconds quicker than his average pace and 21 seconds quicker than kilometre 4. From a coaching perspective, this shows excellent finishing strength; the main opportunity is to smooth out kilometres 3 and 4 to bring more of that late pace into the middle of the race.
