Date: Sept. 3, 2026 Participant: Matthew Gilvear #5083 Race: 2026 Run The Wharf 5K

Fast 5K with a Strong Closing Kilometre Matthew ran 5.00 km in 15:14, averaging 3:02/km. He placed 19th overall out of 5,624, 18th in the Male Elite field, and 3rd in Male Elite 3135. That combines elite-level speed with a very high overall finish percentile. In an event known for fast evening racing through Canary Wharf, he delivered a performance that stayed competitive throughout. His kilometre splits were 3:01, 3:03, 3:04, 3:08, and 3:00. He held 21st through 2 km, then moved up to 19th by 3 km and kept that position to the finish. The standout stat is the final kilometre: after the slowest split at 4 km, he closed with his quickest kilometre of the race. As a coaching note, the only clear gain available is smoothing out km 34 to match the strength of the start and finish.
