Patient early, dominant late Eric ran a terrific St. George Marathon, winning the race in 2:15:23 at 5:10 per mile. What stands out most is how well he built it: after a steady 1:09:44 first half, he came back in 1:05:40, a sharp negative split with a 5:00 pace over the second half. He handled the Veyo climb with poise too, absorbing slower miles of 5:52 and 5:36 at miles 8 and 9 without letting the day get away. Then he really came down the road. He moved into the lead at mile 16 with a 4:48 split, and his closing stretch was full of strength on tired legs: 4:36 at mile 21, 4:56 at 22, 4:53 at 23, and another 4:53 at 25. His final two quarters were the fastest of the day, 33:00 and 32:41, which tells the whole story.
