Fast early, brave through Veyo, and still strong to the line A 2:20:25 Marathon at 5:21 per mile is a fine day on this road, and the strength showed up early. Travis opened with seven steady miles between 5:03 and 5:17, then handled the Veyo climb with 5:54 and 5:35 at miles 8 and 9 without letting the race get away. By mile 13 he was through in 1:08:53, and that patient work set up his best running. The middle of the race was especially sharp. He ripped off miles 13 through 18 in 4:54, 5:11, 4:47, 4:46, 4:46, and 4:56, and his third quarter was his fastest at 32:55, a 5:01 pace. He even led outright at several points from mile 11 through mile 19. The final 10K asked a little more, with splits moving into the 5:49 to 6:13 range, but he stayed in it well and finished 6th overall.
