Fast start, stronger finish in a superb marathon run Ishmael Anguiano put together an excellent St. George Marathon, covering 26.2 miles in 2:21:36 at 5:24 per mile. He was sharp from the gun with a 5:09 opening mile, then stayed steady through 7 miles in 36:46. When the Veyo climb arrived, he handled it well, giving up only what the course asked for with miles 8 and 9 at 6:12 and 5:52, then settled right back in. What stands out most is how strong he was after halfway. His first half was 1:12:02, but his second half was faster in 1:09:35, a clear sign of real strength coming down into town. He rolled through miles 15 and 16 in 4:59 and 4:53, climbed as high as 3rd overall at mile 16 and again at mile 18, and still closed his final 6.55 miles in 34:53.
