Fast second half, top-five finish, and a fearless close That was a terrific St. George Marathon: 2:19:48 for 26.2 miles, averaging 5:20 pace and finishing 5th overall out of 5,987 runners. What stands out most is how well he raced the whole day. After going through the first half in 1:10:31, he came back even stronger with a 1:09:18 second half. That kind of negative split at this pace says a lot. He handled the Veyo stretch with patience, absorbing 5:54 and 5:37 miles at 8 and 9, then got right back to work. The third quarter was his best at 34:14, and he looked especially strong late, ripping a 4:53 at mile 21 and moving up to 2nd overall by mile 24. Even the final 0.2 came in at 5:18 pace. This was smart, aggressive marathon running all the way down into town.
