Fast start, steady climb, and a strong top-three age-group day Ryan put together an excellent St. George Marathon, finishing in 2:29:34 at 5:42 per mile and taking 3rd in the M40-44 division. What stands out first is how sharp he was early: through 6 miles he was consistently between 5:12 and 5:32, then he handled the Veyo climb with control, covering miles 7 to 9 in 5:22, 6:09, and 5:54 without letting the race get away from him. He settled right back in afterward. From mile 13 through 21, he ran seven of nine miles at 5:48 or faster, including a terrific 5:05 at mile 16 and 5:19 at mile 21. That stretch moved him as high as 8th overall at mile 18. The last quarter slowed to 40:41, but by then he had already built a very good marathon on this road into town.
