Division win built on poise and a powerful middle stretch Sam put together a terrific St. George Marathon, finishing in 2:26:39 at 5:35 per mile and winning the M 25-29 division. What stands out is how well he handled the races key moments. He opened with a sharp 34:42 first quarter at 5:17 pace, then stayed steady through the Veyo climb, where miles 8 and 9 came in at 6:11 and 5:49 without letting the day get away from him. From there, he really settled in. His third quarter was his fastest at 35:58, averaging 5:29 pace, and miles 15 through 18 were especially strong at 5:19, 5:10, 5:24, and 5:24. He was still ripping off a 5:06 at mile 21, a real sign of strength coming down into town on tired legs. Even with a slight fade late, holding on for 12th overall out of 5,987 made for a seriously impressive morning.
