Fast second half, steady finish, top-10 day Joe put together an excellent St. George Marathon, finishing in 2:21:06 at 5:23 per mile. The best part was how well he ran the back half: after 1:11:48 through halfway, he covered the second half in 1:09:18, a clear negative split. He handled the Veyo section with patience too, absorbing 6:06 and 5:46 at miles 8 and 9, then settling right back in. From there, he looked strong coming down into town. His third quarter was his fastest at 34:33, and he hit some of his sharpest miles late, including 4:56 at mile 16 and 4:59 at mile 21. Even over the final 6.55 miles, he still averaged 5:18 pace, and that 1:01 for the last 0.2 showed he still had something left at the finish.
