Fast, steady marathon with a strong push through the middle miles A 2:31:46 marathon at 5:47 per mile is a fine day on this road, and the shape of Gio Ramirezs race was especially solid. He opened with six straight miles between 5:30 and 5:38, reached halfway in 1:15:20, and handled the Veyo stretch well after a quick 5:29 at mile 7 with miles 8 and 9 in 6:17 and 5:59. Just as importantly, he stayed composed and kept himself right in the race. What stands out most is how well he ran after that. The third quarter was his best at 37:20, faster than both the second quarter at 38:53 and the final quarter at 39:07. Miles 15 and 16 were excellent at 5:25 and 5:18, and by mile 24 he had worked his way to 13th overall and 1st in the M 20-24 division before finishing 24th overall and 2nd in his age group.
