Half marathon win built on control and a stronger second half Paige Nelson ran a terrific St. George Half Marathon, winning the womens race and her division in 1:11:25, good for 5:27 per mile. What stands out most is how well she settled in and kept pressing: after 2 miles in 11:18, she moved back to the front by mile 3 with a 5:11 split, then held first among women the rest of the way. Her first half was 35:54, and her second half was faster in 35:31. That second-half strength is the real story on this course. Her third quarter was the quickest of the day at 17:31, a sharp 5:21 pace, and from miles 9 through 12 she stayed wonderfully steady at 5:30, 5:25, 5:22, and 5:27. Even with a 5:39 13th mile, she brought it home as the first woman and 7th overall out of 3,607 runners.
