Fast, steady running all the way into town Carolyn Williams put together a beautifully controlled Half Marathon, finishing in 1:17:48 at 5:56 per mile. The best part was how even it was: 38:57 for the first half and 38:52 for the second. Her quarters were just as tidy, from 19:04 in the opening 3.275 miles to 19:32 in the last, which says she stayed right on her effort from start to finish. She opened with a sharp 5:58, then clicked off 5:44 and 5:45 to settle in early. After the midrace stretch, she used the descent into town well, moving through miles 10 and 11 in 5:53 and 5:50 and holding steady with 5:58 and 5:59 in miles 12 and 13. That kind of closing strength earned her 4th woman and kept her near the very front all morning.
