Fast, steady 5K with a sharp closing kick Brandon put together a strong 5K at Worthen Park, finishing in 21:32 at 6:56 per mile. The best part was how controlled it looked early: he clicked off back-to-back 6:47 miles, holding the same pace through the first two miles and keeping himself firmly in 12th overall all the way through. Even after a 7:21 third mile, he still found another gear at the end, covering the final 0.1 in 38 seconds, a 6:22 pace. That late push brought him home 2nd in the mens 4049 division and 12th out of 1,002 runners overall. On a flat in-town 5K, that kind of steady opening and decisive finish makes for a race to feel good about.
