Wire-to-wire win with a sharp closing kick Ryan put together a terrific 5K at St. George, winning the race outright in 15:53 and averaging 5:07 per mile. He was in front from the start and stayed there the whole way, leading at mile 1 in 5:06, at mile 2 in 10:11, and at mile 3 in 15:27 before finishing first overall, first among men, and first in his division out of 1,002 participants. What stands out is how steady and controlled the effort was early, with back-to-back 5:06 miles to open, then how well he responded late. Even with mile 3 ticking to 5:16, he found another gear over the final 0.1, covering it in 27 seconds at a 4:33 pace. That kind of finish shows real composure and speed when the race is already decided by tough running.
