Fast, steady 5K with a sharp finish Shane put together a strong St. George 5K, running 21:17 for 3.1 miles at 6:52 per mile. The best part was how steady he was early: 6:45 for mile 1 and 6:45 again for mile 2, a clean, controlled rhythm that kept him right at 6:44 through two miles. He also finished 3rd in the boys 1519 division, which says plenty about the quality of the run. The third mile stretched to 7:18, but he answered with a lively final 0.1 in 31 seconds, which works out to 5:19 pace. That kind of closing speed shows he still had some run left when the finish came into view at Worthen Park. An 11th-place finish overall out of 1,002 runners makes this a really solid evening in town.
