Front-half sharpness sets up a podium half Rex put together an excellent St. George Half Marathon, finishing 13.1 miles in 1:07:28 at 5:09 per mile and taking 3rd overall out of 3,607 runners. What stood out first was how fast and controlled he was early: 4:59 for mile 1, then three straight miles between 4:52 and 4:54, reaching 4 miles in 19:36. He was right in the mix all morning, sitting 1st or 2nd overall through much of the race. He also handled the middle well, bouncing back with a 4:57 eighth mile after mile 7 in 5:05. The opening half in 32:45 showed just how strong his day was. The final miles drifted from 5:15 to 5:38, which is a sign of how hard he raced from the gun, but he still stayed tough all the way down into town and closed out a top-three finish.
