Patient early, flying late for a commanding marathon win That was a beautifully judged St. George Marathon. Morgan covered 26.2 miles in 2:30:01 at 5:43 per mile, and more than anything, the strength of her second half stands out: 1:11:43 coming home after a 1:18:18 first half. She moved into the womens lead by mile 3, handled the Veyo stretch with 6:24 and 6:07 at miles 8 and 9, and stayed right there. Then the race opened up. From mile 15 on, she rolled through 5:31, 5:20, 5:24, 5:28, and kept pressing all the way into town. Her final quarter was her fastest at 35:20, a 5:23 pace, and mile 25 was especially sharp in 5:07. That late drive brought her to first woman and first in her division, with an overall place of 20th in a field of 5,972.
