Consistent Start with a Steady Drop in Pace Kurt Schetne completed the Surf City Marathon with a final time of 3:14:24, averaging a pace of 7:25 min/mile. Kurt maintained a consistent pace through the first half, frequently hovering around 6:53 min/mile between miles 6 and 14 with a notable quick split at the 9-mile mark clocking in at 6:37. This strong start placed him among the top 31 in his gender during the ninth mile. In the latter part of the race, there was a gradual slowing observed. This began to manifest around mile 17 where his pace slowed to 7:29, and continued to decrease to 8:57 at mile 23. Position-wise, Kurt finished 99th overall among 2,517 participants, 92nd in his gender, and 18th in his M20-24 division. A slight focus on pace consistency in the later miles could refine future performances. Overall, a commendable marathon effort.
