Consistent Early Pace with a Strong Finish Shayla Mauerman delivered a steady marathon performance at the 2026 Surf City race, finishing with an overall time of 3:58:01. Over the course of 26.2 miles, her average pace was 9:05 min/mile. Shayla showed remarkable consistency in her early miles, averaging between 8:36 and 8:43 min/mile from miles 1 to 18. Notably, her efficiency was evident in the first half as she slightly improved rank from a gender placement of 99 at mile 1 to 111 by mile 18. In the latter part of the race, her pace gradually slowed, particularly from mile 21 onwards. This section saw a decline in placement but culminated in a strong finish with an excellent surge on the final mile. Shayla moved from 572nd place overall to 375th place in the last stretch, suggesting she had energy for a robust finish. Refining mid-race pacing strategies could help preserve energy for even stronger finishes in future races. Keep up the hard work!
