Strong Start with Consistent Pacing But Slowed Finish Jake Brannon began the 2026 Surf City Marathon with a promising start. Through the first 10 miles, Jake maintained an impressive pace, staying consistently around the 6:50 minutes per mile mark. His fastest split came during mile 10, clocking a solid 6:33. He improved his position significantly from starting at 106th place overall, breaking into the top 50 by mile 3. His steady and fast pace indicated a strong potential placing for the majority of the race. However, from mile 17 onwards, the pace started to slow, with the final sections averaging over 9 minutes per mile. This pace decline contributed to a drop in overall placement to 127th by the race's end. Focusing on maintaining the strong cadence seen in the first two-thirds of the race throughout its entirety would be an excellent area of improvement for future events. Overall, Jake demonstrated a solid race foundation and potential for further personal records.
