Consistent Start with Mid-Race Surge Jake Hartwell completed the 2026 Surf City 5K with an overall elapsed time of 21:40, averaging a pace of 6:59 min/mile. His performance shows a strong start with a first-mile split of 6:20, placing him 59th overall and 6th in his division category M35-39. Despite a gradual slowdown in the second mile, his placement remained stable within his division. Interestingly, while his second-mile split was slower at 7:05, Jake managed to improve his overall standing. His third mile demonstrated a good recovery with a split of 7:48, moving him up to finish 5th in his division, M35-39, by the last split time. To capitalize on such a mid-race surge, focus on maintaining pace to reduce time gaps between splits. Consider pacing strategies or tempo runs designed to enhance endurance over the latter stages of a race.
