Strong Start with Consistent Early Pacing Sean Wakimura, a 22-year-old from Lakewood, CA, delivered a commendable performance in the 2026 Surf City Marathon. Demonstrating strong pacing in the initial miles, Sean maintained a steady pace of around 7:20-7:22 min/mile for the majority of the race, consistently placing within the top 150 overall and the top 140 in his gender category. Notably, his mid-race splits between mile 10 and 18 showed particular strength, with paces fluctuating slightly but averaging around a solid 7:20 min/mile. In the latter stages, after mile 22, there was a noticeable slowdown where split paces increased, culminating in miles 23 to 25 where splits extended beyond 9 minutes per mile. Concluding at 3:22:55 with an overall pace of 7:44 min/mile, Sean finished 155th out of 2517 participants.
