Consistent Early Pace with Late-Race Challenges Jacob Grunseich displayed a strong start at the 2026 Surf City Marathon, maintaining a consistent pace for much of the race. His early splits were impressive, beginning with a 7:31 min/mile, quickly improving to around 7:24 min/mile by mile 3. Notably, Jacob reached mile 5 at 36:53 with an average pace of 7:22 min/mile, showcasing his endurance and speed in the early and middle sections of the marathon. However, in the latter stages, there was a noticeable decrease in pace, with mile 25 clocking in at 8:43 min/mile and mile 26 slowing further to 9:21 min/mile. This shift may indicate some fatigue impacting the overall consistency of his performance. Despite these challenges, Jacob completed the marathon in a commendable time of 3:17:59, placing 22nd in the M20-24 division.
