Consistent Progress With Room for Growth Mason Nguyen demonstrated impressive pacing strategy during the 2026 Surf City 5K. Starting with a 7:07 minute first mile, he quickly adjusted to a faster pace of 6:51 minutes for the second mile. This improvement allowed him to elevate his position from 102nd to 74th overall. Masons third mile was clocked at 7:09 minutes, closing with an overall elapsed time of 21:44 minutes, which translates to an average pace of 7:00 minutes per mile. A standout aspect of Masons race was his significant leap in placement, particularly within the MUnder 15 division, moving from 7th to 3rd by the third mile. While the slight dip in pace during the last mile is noticeable, its evident that his ability to maintain a relatively steady performance contributed to his strong placement.
