Fast Start, Strong Finish Ryan Cowen delivered a noteworthy performance at the 2026 Surf City 5K. His first mile opened with an impressive pace of 4:14 min/mile, securing the top spot overall. The subsequent mile saw a more controlled pace of 6:24 min/mile, resulting in a slight slip to 19th position overall and 3rd in the M45-49 division. A continued adjustment in the final mile with a pace of 7:42 min/mile led to a final placement of 30th overall and 4th in his division. Ryan maintained a commendable average pace of 6:09 min/mile throughout the 3.1-mile course. His overall placement was 30th out of 5020 participants, a strong result. I'd recommend targeting a more consistent pacing strategy. Balancing the early burst could enhance overall transition and minimize shifts in rank. Great to see him setting a brisk pace early on, and finding ways to maintain that momentum will be beneficial.
