Consistent Pacing Dominates Division Kai Mittelsteadt had a remarkable performance in the 2026 Surf City Marathon, maintaining a consistent pace throughout the race. Starting strong with a 6:04 min/mile pace for the first two miles, Kai showed excellent pacing discipline. By mile 4, Kai's pace improved to 5:54 min/mile, with his placement shifting to sixth overall. The early segments of the race demonstrated Kai's ability to maintain a leading pace, with a division lead secured as first in the M20-24 category. In the mid to late stages, Kai held a steady average pace close to 6:00 min/mile. The final stretch saw some variation, with splits ranging from 5:20 to 6:44 min/mile, indicating where additional speedwork may benefit future races. Although there was a slight slow down in the last miles, Kai finished strong with an overall time of 2:40:43, securing first place in his division. An excellent testament to purposeful pacing and endurance.
