Strong Start, Faded Finish Wes maintained an impressive pace in the early splits, averaging consistently below 7 minutes per mile for the first six miles. His pace showed noticeable variance, with a particularly strong performance in mile 4, at a pace of 6:49 min/mile. He climbed to his highest placement overall, 75th, by the third mile, evidencing his early strength and speed. However, as the race progressed, a gradual deceleration became evident. The pace shifted significantly in the latter half, reaching 9:23 min/mile during the 24th mile. Wes finished the marathon with an overall time of 3 hours, 24 minutes, and 15 seconds, averaging a pace of 7:47 min/mile and placed 45th in his division. Focusing on maintaining a consistent pace throughout the race could be beneficial for future events. Keeping the speed gains seen early on while managing late-race fatigue will enhance overall performance.
