Steady Start but Challenging Finish Jacob Gydus began the race with consistent mile splits, starting strong with his first 5 miles all under 9 minutes per mile. His strongest split was the 4th mile at 8:37 min/mile, indicating strong pacing in the early part of the race. At the halfway point, his pace was maintained just above 9 minutes per mile, showcasing determination and effort. In the latter half, beginning from mile 16, there was a noticeable decrease in pace. By mile 19, the split time increased significantly to 14:03 min/mile. Despite this, Jacob maintained consistent effort to complete his first marathon in 4:49:40 with an average pace of 11:03 min/mile. His ability to continue through the late miles of the race demonstrates resilience, an excellent trait to build upon for future races.
