Consistent Start, Challenges in the Closing Stages Stephen started the race with a solid pace, maintaining an average of 7:55 min/mile across the first five miles, showcasing commendable consistency. During the initial miles, he managed to place 33rd in his age division. His pace slightly dipped in the middle stages but recovered admirably in mile 6 with a split pace of 7:58 min/mile, achieving his second-best division position at 24th. After mile 10, the pace began to slow, especially beyond the halfway mark. By mile 21, the split pace reached 9:15 min/mile. The final miles saw further decreases, culminating in 9:01 and 8:49 min/mile splits for miles 25 and 26. Despite dropping to 43rd in his division by race end, crossing the finish line with an overall pace of 8:23 min/mile is noteworthy. For future races, focusing on maintaining pace in the latter stages could provide exciting improvements.
