Steady Early Pace with a Strong Start and a Decelerated Finish Douglas maintained a steady pace throughout most of the race, with splits hovering around the 7:30 min/mile mark for the initial sections. His early splits show consistent placement in his division, with positions ranging from 4th to 7th in the M50-54 category. Notably, at the 3-mile mark, he registered his fastest split of 7:23, which sustained his strong ranking of 4th in his division. As the race progressed, particularly post the 20-mile mark, there was a notable decrease in pace, entering the 8-9 min/mile range. This deceleration impacted the overall pace to 7:47 min/mile, affecting his final standing. Concentrating on maintaining pace in the later miles next time could be beneficial. Overall, Douglas demonstrated a strong start and middle phase, showing potential for optimizing the later stages of the marathon.
