Steady Climb with Strong Finishes Shiao Beng Tay maintained a consistent pace throughout the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K event. Starting with a solid first mile at 12:03 min/mile, there was a slight deceleration during the second mile, reflected in a 12:37 min/mile split. The most notable slow down was between miles two and three, with a split of 15:25 min/mile, coinciding with the steep ascent of Hayes Hill. Despite this, there was a commendable recovery as Tay increased his pace to 11:48 min/mile by mile four. The latter miles of the race showcased Tay's resilience and ability to push through. Particularly noteworthy is the strong finish during the final mile at 11:14 min/mile. While his overall pace averaged 12:55 min/mile over the full 7.45 miles, reflecting a consistent performance, focusing on uphill pacing could optimize future results. Tay's ability to regain momentum after challenging segments highlights a great foundation for future races.
