Consistent Pace with Mid-Race Surge Carmen Fahlen demonstrated steady pacing throughout the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K. The initial 3-mile splits were consistent at 15:23 min/mile, maintaining her positions at 7660th overall, 3468th among females, and 1138th in her division (F20-29). This consistency on the early segment, including Hayes Hill starting at 2.2 miles, was commendable. From mile 4 onwards, Carmen increased her pace significantly. Her splits improved to 12:08 min/mile, which allowed her to gain approximately 1,200 places overall. The improvement in place within her division to 924th, and the eventual overall time of 1:39:11 with an average pace of 13:18 min/mile, demonstrates a strong finish. As a member of Snail Racing Ltd., the strategic pace increase in the latter half was crucial. For future races, further emphasis on early-race speed might enhance overall performance.
