Steady Improvement with a Strong Finish Kateryna Kovalenko's performance in the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K demonstrated a consistent improvement throughout the race. Initially starting with a pace of 12:34 min/mile for the first mile, she faced Hayes Hill after the second mile, which is reflected in the increased split pace of 15:04 min/mile between mile two and three. Despite this challenge, her placement notably improved during this segment, advancing from 9344th to 6877th overall. In the latter stages, Kateryna's pacing skills shone through. By the fourth mile, she rebounded with a faster split pace of 12:14 min/mile. Her most significant improvement was between miles five and six, where she recorded her fastest split pace of 10:55 min/mile. This impressive finish allowed her to secure the 5283rd overall position. As she continues to develop her pacing strategy early on, she has the potential to improve placement further in her gender and division.
