Impressive Mid-Race Recovery Rafe Thayer maintained consistent pacing in the initial miles of the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K, clocking in his first two miles at a steady 8:33 min/mile. The 1-mile section including Hayes Hill saw a slight slow down to 9:41 min/mile, likely due to the notorious hill from 2.2 to 2.7 miles. Despite this, Rafe showed significant improvement in the later stages with splits of 8:03 and 7:32 for miles 5 and 6. Achieving an overall pace of 8:17 min/mile, Rafe finished with an impressive 7:29 minute pace for the final mile, highlighting his strong finish. He secured the 143rd position in the M40-49 category out of a large field of 26,545 participants. Strong finishes particularly post-Hayes Hill, indicate excellent late-race endurance.
