Steady Progress Despite Mid-Race Challenge Leonard A. Contreras participated in the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K, performing consistently throughout the race. Covering a distance of 7.45 miles with a final time of 1:37:20, Leonard maintained an overall pace of 13:03 min/mile. The progression shows a strategic adaptation, particularly visible in miles 5 through 7, where he managed to gain a faster pace after a steep challenge in the third mile. Starting with an 11:27 min/mile pace, Leonard encountered a slowdown at Hayes Hill, resulting in a 17:25 min/mile pace. Notably, Leonard improved after facing the steep section by accelerating to 12:23 min/mile in the fifth mile and hitting a split pace of 11:41 min/mile in the sixth mile. This demonstrates a well-managed recovery after an initial slow-down. As part of the Fresno Beer Runners team, Leonard placed 548th in his M50-59 division, showing solid effort against a large field of 24,523 participants. Concentrating on maintaining consistency in more demanding segments could yield better results in future races.
