Increased Momentum After Steep Hill Simon, from San Francisco, participated in the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K event. Starting with an 11:42 min/mile pace, Simon maintained a consistent effort through mile 2, improving to 11:29 min/mile. Notably, during the challenging Hayes Hill section between miles 2 and 3, his pace slowed to 17:09 min/mile. However, post-Hayes Hill, Simon showed remarkable recovery. He picked up the pace in the latter miles, achieving his fastest split in mile 6 at 9:52 min/mile. Despite the earlier slowdown, Simon finished the race strong with a final overall placement of 5269 out of 24,523 participants and was part of the PAC RUN CLUB team. His performance improved after tackling the hill, demonstrated by his reduced time in the latter splits. Consider practicing hill training to sustain momentum through elevations, which can help maintain the pace consistently throughout similar future races.
