Consistent Performance Despite Middle Segment Slowdown Karthik Bharathala completed the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K with an overall time of 3:14:06. He maintained a steady performance in the first two miles with paces of 21:14 min/mile and 21:43 min/mile. Notably, he improved his placement significantly by moving up from 16368th overall to 12887th in the third mile. It's clear from his splits that navigating Hayes Hill, steep between miles 2.2 to 2.7, affected his pace, with a noticeable slowdown to a 27:13 min/mile pace. Improvements were seen after the initial hill challenge, as his pace quickened to 20:51 min/mile and 19:03 min/mile in later miles. Particularly commendable was his placement surge from 17687th to 15357th overall in the sixth mile. Finishing 19790th out of 24523 participants and 2352nd in his division indicates areas for tactical pacing improvement. A more consistent pace might yield better results in future races. Karthik's endurance and determination were evident throughout the race.
