Strong Finish Despite Mid-race Slowdown Alona Saffen from Fair Oaks, CA completed the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K race in 1:41:48, averaging a pace of 13:39 min/mile. Representing Lindy's Legacy, Alona initially maintained a strong start with the first mile completed in 11:37. However, during the third mile, which coincided with Hayes Hill, pace dropped to 18:39 min/mile causing an increase in the overall elapsed pace to 14:58 min/mile. This hill may have contributed to the lower place overall at 8453, and gender place at 3770. After reaching the peak at three miles, Alona showed remarkable resilience by significantly improving pace in the subsequent miles with mile five showing the fastest split at 11:06 min/mile. The positive momentum carried through to the finish with a consistent pace in the later stages, improving her position to 6310 overall and 2731 in gender. For future races, focusing on consistent pacing strategy could lead to even better results.
