The steep section from miles 2.2 to 2.7 possibly contributed to the slower 27:23 min/mile pace in the third mile. It's commendable that Natalie's placement improved significantly afterward, dropping her overall place from 11,661 to 10,746 by mile four. Her performance peaked from miles four onward.
