Consistent Pacing with Improved Recovery Katherine Kurylo maintained an even pace throughout the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K race, starting with a split pace of 18:46 min/mile for the first mile and a consistent 18:44 min/mile by the second. Despite the notable challenge presented by Hayes Hill between miles 2.2 and 2.7, Katherine demonstrated remarkable recovery post-hill, improving her pace in the fifth and sixth miles with split paces of 18:18 min/mile and 17:47 min/mile, respectively, indicating strong endurance and strategic pacing. Katherine finished with an elapsed time of 2:25:41, maintaining an average overall pace of 19:33 min/mile. Execution of each mile showed a balance of determination and stamina, particularly between miles 5 to 7. Her improvement in placement from splitting 14000 to finishing ahead of over 1000 runners suggests strong efforts in the latter half of the race. Continued work on hill pacing could further enhance performance in future races.
