Improved Pace in the Final Miles James Scott demonstrated a steady performance during the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K race, representing the PAC RUN CLUB. His consistent pacing throughout the race is notable, with an overall average pace of 13:17 min/mile. Initially, he completed the first mile with a solid pace of 12:01 min/mile. Confronted with Hayes Hill from miles 2.2 to 2.7, his splits naturally slowed, reaching 16:39 min/mile by the fourth mile. Encouragingly, James managed to pick up his pace in the latter part of the race. From mile 5 onward, he progressively reduced his split times, achieving his best mile split of 11:13 min/mile in the final mile. Ending with an elapsed time of 1:39:00, James's ability to accelerate in the later stages led to a commendable improvement in his placement within his division, advancing from 1533 to 1123 by the sixth and final mile. This strong finish indicates potential for further advancements in future races.
