Consistent Start, Tough Finish Reed Evans, representing PAC RUN CLUB, completed the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K with a total time of 2:30:57, maintaining an average pace of 20:15 min/mile. Initially, Reed exhibited impressive consistency, pacing at 11:34 min/mile for the first two miles. This consistency positioned him in 5131st place overall and 558th in his M40-49 division. However, the steep Hayes Hill section between miles 2.2 and 2.7 led to a noticeable pace drop, with a 30:43 min/mile split. Following the challenging hill, Reed was able to slightly improve his pace, running the fifth and sixth miles faster than the elapsed pace with splits of 15:51 and 15:05 min/mile, respectively. Despite losing positions overall, Reed showed the ability to recover some pace after the third mile. An area to consider for future races could involve strategies for maintaining pace on steep inclines to minimize position losses, resulting in a stronger finish.
