Steady Improvement and Pace Gains Mark Molumphy from Burlingame, CA participated in the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K race, demonstrating consistent pace improvement throughout the event. He completed the race in 3:28:33. Although his overall place was 18,883, Mark's performance in the Male 50-59 division showed some movement, finishing 1,055th out of a large field. Notably, Mark improved his pace from 35:56 min/mile in the early miles to a solid 28:18 min/mile by the final stretch. Particularly impressive was Mark's performance on the third mile, including an ascent up Hayes Hill, where his split pace dropped to 32:25 min/mile, moving up significantly in overall placement. The latter stages saw even more substantial gains, highlighted by a fast mile at a 20:14 min/mile pace between miles 5 and 6. Continued focus on maintaining this momentum and incorporating hill training could lead to even stronger performances in future events.
