Consistent Pacing with a Strong Finish Lucille Cao participated in the 2026 Bay to Breakers 12K, representing Team Checkr. Initially, her pace was consistent, as observed in her first two splits of 26:33 and 26:03 min/mile. However, the third mile saw a slower pace of 30:23 min/mile, coinciding with Hayes Hill, which is a challenging part of the course. Lucille improved her pacing strategy in the latter miles, showing remarkable improvement with a split pace of 16:07 min/mile for the fifth mile. Lucille concluded with a final overall time of 2:40:09 and an impressive average pace of 21:29 min/mile, positioning her 2536th in her age division out of 24386 participants. Her ability to pick up speed towards the end, achieving splits of 13:01 and 11:29 min/mile over the last two miles, demonstrates her capacity to finish strong. In future races, starting at a pace closer to her finishing splits could be beneficial.
