Steady Pace Through 18 Miles Before a Late-Race Fade Zach Stelwagon finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:09:26. His race unfolded in two distinct halves: through the first 18 miles he held a remarkably even 8:118:38 per-mile pace, crossing that mark in 2:31:57. From mile 19 on, his splits slowed steadily, dropping into the 10-to-14-minute range before a stronger final mile brought him home. That opening 18-mile stretch was the standout of the day nearly 2.5 hours of tightly controlled running, holding within seconds of an 8:23 pace mile after mile. The final miles wound past Boulder Reservoir and county backroads before the finish on the Pearl Street Mall, a fitting downtown finish line after a day that began at over 5,000 feet of elevation in Boulder.
